Dr Ying Kan is a UK-qualified and trained Counselling Psychologist. Dr Ying has 10 years of clinical experience overseas and in Hong Kong; with extensive experience working with children, teenagers, young adults and their families with a range of clinical presentations.
Dr Ying's specialism is in neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly in supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD.
Dr Ying practices hollistically utilising person-centered and humanistic counselling to develop rapport with children and young adults in providing a safe, private and secure setting for them to be able to discuss, explore and understand their experiences. Evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques and skills are also utilised to help individuals recognise unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours which can maintain levels of distress and cyclical negative experiences.
Dr Ying has run a range of groups focusing on Social Thinking, challenging behaviour as well as mood disorders and is a certified leader in the Incredible Years Parenting programme.
Dr Ying's background within the private sector as well as the government NHS sector means that she is passionate about working within organisational systems and relishes the opportunity to work with a range of professionals and in teams. Providing training, consultation and support to staff teams is a further area of Dr Ying's interest and passion, having had the opportunity to conducted this within hospitals, schools, corporate settings as well as charity organisations.
Dr Ying is trilingual, speaking English, Cantonese and Mandarin with fluency. She is a registered Practioner Psychologist of the UK Health Care Professions Council, Chartered Practitioner of the British Psychological Society and a Registered Psychologist with the Hong Kong Psychological Society.
